Google Account Banned

Google are banning publishers accounts in record numbers!

It seems that in the last few months more and more Adsense publishers are finding that there Adsense account has been banned/removed/deleted. So I hope that I can help YOU before it’s too late.

So what’s going on? What’s the story? Why is this happening?

An online friend of mine recently emailed me asking for advice as his ads were no longer displaying on his websites. A couple of days later he received that dreaded email from Google telling him his account had been suspended. After taking a look at some of his sites I could see no obvious reason of policy violation.

So why did Google give him the boot?

It seems they are having a BIG crackdown on MFA (Made For Adsense) sites. It used to be fine to have a site with Adsense ads as long as the site contained good quality content. This is no longer enough. You now have to show that your site has some purpose other than for displaying Adsense ads.

Fortunately this is easily remedied, but if you have a large number of sites it can take some time. So what’s the solution? Well there are a number of options but I have chosen some below that should have a minimal effect on your CTR%.

  1. Most Adsense publishers use www.ezinearticles.com and they have a great little widget that let’s you display links to other relevant articles on their site. You can just copy and paste a small piece of code whereever you want the widget to appear.
  2. By registering with Amazon as an affiliate you can select one of many banners to add to your site. One of these will actually look at your content and try to display relevant ads. It’s not that clever and in my experience the ads aren’t always particularly well targetted but that doesn’t matter too much. Again, it’s just a small piece of code you can copy and paste.
  3. This had to be in here. We all know about www.ClickBank.com , but there are many other affiliate options out there such as www.CommissionJunction.com, and www.PayDotCom.com and you can usually find an offer that’s closely related to your niche.

I could go on but you get the idea. Go out and find something for your sites that gives the visitor other options, rather than just Adsense.

It doesn’t have to be an advertisement at all. It could be shoutbox, or some other kind of widget.

If you’re relatively new to adsense then it’s important you do keep up-to-date with all the Policies and T.O.S as Google like to keep publishers on their toes. In the last couple of years there have been a number of changes including:

  • Privacy Policy – You are now required to have a privacy policy on every adsense site
  • Double-Dart Cookie – You must include in your policy an explanatio nof the use of the cookie Google uses to serve relevant ads.
  • Images and Ad’s – You cannot display images that could in anyway make a visitor believe they are related to the advertisement.

There are others but these are the big 3 that really stand out.

What do you think of Googles ever-changing policies?
Are you fed-up with trying to keep up?
Do you feel it’s all for the good of the online community?

Personally i’d be a little happier if they were better at keeping publishers informed and actually gave us a way of contacting them when we need information or clarification. There are so many grey areas and everyone interpretes  the rules differently.

Anyway – If this post help just one of my readers keep their account clean and keep those paychecks coming in then i’ll be happy.

Are your Adsense paychecks as big as you’d like?
Would you like to see how I earned over $10,000 from just one site that took me around 20 hours work from start to finish?

If you haven’t already then grab my report “10 days to $10k with Adsense“. Don’t worry- It’s FREE. I’m not gonna charge you a penny.

There are some great alternatives to adsense as I had to discover this myself. If your adsense account does get suspended for some crazy reason (they are very strict!) don’t fret. There are a million other ways to make money online, and a long list of other advertisers who you can apply to. If this happens to you, just know you are not alone. ;)

I think they should allow a 2nd chance policy. We all make a small mistake every now and then. It was enough that they took my earnings – so let me start again from scratch and allow a 2nd chance. All water under the bridge at this point. I don’t think it’s going to get any easier.

Google is just like every other big bully in the world. Some day there will be somone that can get their attention and take them down a peg or two. I will not be shedding any tears when that happens. It probably will not happen soon, but eventually it always happens.

  3. Hey John thanks for the good information about google and the crackdown! I think that they should definitely let the publishers know before closing down the account, in my opinion, terrible business practice, good thing is bing.com is coming up with a new search engine and you can also use yahoo publishing, so you have some alternatives right!

  4. I’ve no problem with AdSense – but I really like to mix AdSense with affiliate offers and of course my products as well! :-)

    Thanks.

Thanks for all your great comments.

Yes – There are some great alternatives to Adsense. People love Adsense because it’s so easy to implement and the ad’s are very well targetted. But if you’re one of the unlucky ones who does get banned don’t ever think it’s the end of the road. as “avenuegirl” pointed out – There are many other options, many of which I hope to discuss with you all soon.

But, mixing in other forms of revenue is not only a good idea but should now be considered good practice. I have increased revenue by over 30% on some sites simply by placing soem well targetted affiliate promotions – and YES, why not add your own products to the mix. A healthy online business depends on multiple income streams.

And finally, yes Bing.com is very quickly grabbing some big shares in the field, Will it rival Google and “take them down a peg or two”? who knows, but they are definately ones to watch.
